Self-sustaining Cities was founded on 23 August 2025. During our first months, we received support twice from municipal local committees, which made it possible to organise three public events during the autumn.
The first was a practical workshop held in a playground area in Copenhagen. Participants were introduced to forest garden principles and then took part in establishing a small growing area. The event concluded with a communal lunch prepared from seasonal produce sourced from a market garden on the outskirts of the city.
We also organised a workshop for young people on the ethical principles that underpin permaculture.
In addition, we hosted a screening of the film The Nature of Farming, which brought together an audience of 300 people. The screening was followed by a talk and discussion on how cities can become more self-sufficient in fruit and vegetable production.

In another municipality, we are currently awaiting access to a one-hectare plot of land where we plan to establish a local, community-based food growing initiative together with residents in the area.
